Serving Adults Across the Big Island
I work with adults ages 18 to 64 who are struggling with issues that often affect daily life but go untreated for years. Whether it's anxiety that never lets your mind rest, depression that weighs you down every day, or emotional trauma you’ve never fully addressed, there is help—and it’s accessible to you right now.
Through private video sessions, I listen closely, offer tailored treatment plans, and provide medical support when needed. If you’ve been trying to find a telepsychiatrist in Big Island who truly understands your journey, I’m here to help.
What I Treat in My Telepsychiatry Practice
Psychiatric symptoms often don’t show up all at once. They grow quietly, sometimes blending into our routines. But if your mental health is affecting your work, relationships, or motivation, it’s time to take a deeper look. I treat the following conditions regularly in my online practice:
Depression
Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, lack of energy, or disconnection from life can make even the simplest tasks feel impossible. With guided care and, when necessary, medication, we can create space for recovery.
Anxiety
Whether it’s chronic worry, racing thoughts, panic attacks, or social avoidance, anxiety can become a controlling force. I offer a calm, structured space where we can manage these symptoms together.
ADD/ADHD
When focus, organization, or emotional regulation becomes difficult, it can impact every part of your day. I help adults identify these patterns and explore treatment options that support attention, productivity, and balance.
Bipolar Disorder
Managing the emotional highs and lows of bipolar disorder requires understanding, structure, and often a combination of talk therapy and medical support. I guide patients through this process step by step.
Trauma Recovery
Emotional trauma from past abuse, whether in childhood or adulthood, can continue affecting your present in unexpected ways. In our sessions, we work at a pace that feels safe and empowering.
Please note: I do not prescribe opioids.
Why Big Island Patients Choose Hawaii TelePsychiatry
Life on the Big Island offers natural beauty and peace, but it can also bring unique obstacles when it comes to accessing healthcare. Whether it’s long commutes, limited availability of psychiatric providers, or a demanding schedule that doesn’t allow time for traditional appointments, many residents find it difficult to get the help they need. That’s where Hawaii TelePsychiatry comes in.
My telepsychiatry practice is designed to remove those barriers. You can meet with me securely and privately from the comfort of your home, your office, or wherever you feel safe and at ease. All sessions are conducted using HIPAA-compliant technology to protect your privacy. You only need a smartphone or laptop and an internet connection.
This isn’t just about convenience—it’s about creating a space where you can be heard, supported, and guided without disruption to your daily life. If you’re trying to find a telepsychiatrist in Big Island who understands the island’s challenges and offers respectful, flexible care, you’re in the right place. My goal is to make quality mental health support feel close, even when you're far from a clinic or hospital.
Meet Dr. Scott Gladstone
I received my medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in 1985 and completed my residency at Los Angeles County–USC Medical Center. I’ve worked in many environments, including private clinics, hospitals, jails, and underserved communities.
I’ve lived in Hawaii for over 30 years and have focused my career on adult psychiatry. My goal has always been to meet patients where they are, both emotionally and literally. That’s why telepsychiatry has become such an important part of my work—it allows people to access support without disruption to their life or privacy.
In addition to psychiatry, I’m also the author of Bad Jelly Book, a self-help book about trauma recovery, emotional healing, and building mental clarity. I believe deeply that change is possible when the right support is offered.
How Sessions Work
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, but I aim to make the process easy, comfortable, and welcoming. Your first session is a relaxed conversation where we’ll explore what’s been weighing on you, discuss your goals, and begin to understand the patterns or symptoms you’ve been experiencing. There’s no pressure to have all the answers or bring any paperwork. Just come as you are—we’ll figure things out together.
To ensure convenience and privacy, I use a secure, browser-based video platform that’s HIPAA-compliant. There’s no need to download any apps or install complicated software. Once your session is scheduled, you’ll receive a private link by email. At your appointment time, simply click the link to begin. Whether you’re at home, in a private office, or even in your car between errands, all you need is a smartphone or laptop with an internet connection.
These sessions are focused completely on you—your thoughts, your challenges, and your healing. You’ll always be speaking directly with me, and I will take the time to listen, ask questions, and guide you without judgment. This one-on-one connection is central to how I work and ensures your care feels personal, consistent, and supportive.
Each appointment is a step forward toward better understanding yourself, managing your symptoms, and creating a healthier and more peaceful state of mind.
Insurance and Payment Options
Understanding your insurance and payment choices can feel overwhelming, but I aim to keep things simple and clear. I currently work with several major insurance providers, including HMSA, UHA, and HMAA. If you’re covered by one of these, I can help you verify your benefits and explain what’s included.
For those without insurance or who prefer not to use it, I also welcome private pay patients. While I do not accept Medicare or Medicaid, I’m happy to discuss alternative payment options and help you make the best decision for your care. If you’re unsure about your coverage or how payment works, just reach out—I’ll guide you through the process step by step.
